Voltage Installation instructions

Voltage SecureMail Installation Instructions


This document outlines the basic steps to install and configure Voltage SecureMail email encryption software on an end user’s computer.

1. Log on to the computer as a local administrator to install the software. (Note: required for the installation to be successful)

2. Double click on the appropriate msi installer according to computer’s operating system.

• VoltageEncryption_SecureMail_SecureFile_x86.msi (32 bit) or

• VoltageEncryption_SecureMail_SecureFile_x64.msi (64 bit)

3. Once clicked, the installer will run a check on the system

4. On the “Welcome to the Voltage Encryption v5.3 Setup Wizard” dialog box, click “Next”.

5. On the “End-User License Agreement” dialog box, select “I Agree” and click “Next”.

6. On the “Choose Destination Folder” dialog box, accept the defaults by clicking “Next” to continue.

7. On the “Ready to install Voltage Encryption v5.3” dialog box, click “Install”

8. After clicking the “Install” button, you should be prompted with a “User Account Control” dialog box. Enter the proper administrator password to continue the install.

9. On the “Completing the Voltage Encryption v5.3 Setup Wizard” dialog box, click “Finish”. After clicking “Finish” the process will continue with the Voltage Encryption Manager. Make sure to wait for this to complete the process.

10. On the “Welcome to Voltage Encryption!” dialog box, click “Next” to start the Voltage Encryption Manager configuration process.

11. On the “Enroll” dialog box, enter the user’s email address and click the “Next” button.

12. On the “Enroll Identity” Dialog box, enter the user’s credentials in the “Windows Security” box and click “OK”.

13. On the “Completing the Voltage Encryption Setup” dialog box, click “Finish”.

14. Restart the computer.

15. Log on as the domain user that you are setting up Voltage for. The Voltage Encryption Manager will appear to complete the setup process. Click “Next” on the “Welcome to Voltage Encryption!” dialog box.

16. On the “Enroll” dialog box, enter the user’s email address and click the “Next” button.

17. On the “Completing the Voltage Encryption Setup” dialog box, Click “Finish”.


Moving the Send Secure Button in Outlook

The following step will move the Send Secure button to the far right on the new email message ribbon bar. This will help users avoid confusing the Send Secure button with the Send button.

18. Open Microsoft Outlook and create a new email. Right click on the ribbon bar and click on “Customize the Ribbon” from the drop down menu.

19. In the Outlook Options dialog box, click on “Voltage” in the menu on the right side, click the down arrow to move Voltage to the bottom of the New Message List and click OK.

20. The Send Secure button will now be on the right side of the menu bar.


Installation Confirmation and Testing

21. Open Microsoft Outlook and create a new email. In the new email, on the right hand side of the “Message” tab there will be a “Send Secure” button. This confirms that Voltage has been successfully installed.

22. Compose a new message to another email account you have access to and click the “Send Secure” button.

23. Follow the instructions on the email and click the attachment and follow the instructions. If this is the first time to open a Voltage secure email, the recipient will need to go through a series of steps to set up an account.

24. Click on the attachment link in the and select open in the File Download dialog box

25. Internet explorer will then open. Read the instructions and click the blue “Read Secure Message” link.

26. The Hotmail user will then need to select their email from the list and click on the “View Message” link.

27. If this is the first time for this email recipient receiving a voltage secure email they will need to create a password to continue. Fill out the appropriate lines and click on the “Continue” button.

28. The user will then get a message to check their email for identity verification.

29. In the users email account there will be a message titled “Voltage SecureMail Identity Verification”. Open the email message and click the link provided.

30. The link will direct the user to their secure email. Hit reply or reply to all button.

31. After hitting reply, the “Compose New Message” box will appear. Compose the emal response and click on the “Send Secure” button.

32. A confirmation will then display saying that the message was sent successfully. Click the “Sign Out” button to close the session.

33. Once signed out, a message will appear that the use has signed out with instructions if you need to view the message again or by clicking “Compose a New Secure Message” if needed. Otherwise the widow can be closed if finished.

34. Once a user has went through this process, the next time they receive a SecureMail message, a logon prompt will be displayed. The all the user will need to do is enter their password to see the secured email message.
